What’s hot in colours, area rugs, backsplashes and more
Is it time for a change?
Make 2017 the year you decide to update your home’s look. And let us here at United Floors help!
Whether you’re just looking to perk up your livingroom with a new rug and accent pieces or you’re considering putting in new hardwood flooring, here are some of the design trends making headlines this year.
Lush – THE colour for floors, accents and other design elements
Okay, so lush isn’t so much a colour as it is a palette – and it refers to greens.
Known as “nature’s neutral,” greens go well with light and darks and pick up on accents in woods. Neither masculine or feminine, and ranging from a light teal or aquamarine to lime green right through to emerald, greens bring the outside in. Add a pop of fresh energy to any room by incorporating a shade of green with new tile work, area rugs, carpet or hardwood flooring.
Tiles – bigger is better . . . and we mean big!
Think you know large tiles? Think again! For both residential and commercial applications, large-format tiles are making an impact. Ranging from 12 x 24 inches to 40 x 120 inches, occasionally even greater, these days big tiles are all the rage. Originally mostly available as thin porcelain, the tiles are now available in glass ceramic and even stone. For a bold and exciting new look, consider large tiles!
Area rugs – some of the hot styles
Area rugs have both function and fashion appeal. They can help protect high-traffic areas while also adding an interesting design element. As noted, you can stay on top of changing trends by adding a new rug in the season’s hot colour – green. Layering rugs with different colours and textures is also a popular option this year.
Another trend is the use of Bohemian or ethnic-styled rugs with interesting and colourful design – they add a bit of life to rooms that have a clean or minimalistic design. Come check out the numerous area rug options at our Courtenay location.
Kitchen backsplashes – still grabbing attention
Backsplashes are still a great option for adding a little personality to your kitchen. Whether using tiles in glass, ceramic, metal or a combination thereof, many people are opting for white, off-white and grey options to keep things looking big and airy with a splash of colour thrown in. And don’t forget, tile size is increasing.
